Verapamil No Prescription

Verapamil is prescribed for the treatment of hypertension and angina.
Verapamil is prescribed to treat irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias) and high blood pressure. It relaxes your blood vessels so your heart does not have to pump as hard. It also increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart to control chest pain (angina). If taken regularly, verapamil controls chest pain, but it does not stop chest pain once it starts. Your doctor may give you a different prescription to take when you have chest pain.

A calcium channel blocker that is a class IV anti-arrhythmia agent.

Verapamil Contraindications

Verapamil is contraindicated if you have any of the following conditions:
- Severe left ventricular dysfunction .
- Hypotension (systolic pressure less than 90 mm Hg) or cardiogenic shock.
- Sick sinus syndrome (except in patients with a functioning artificial ventricular pacemaker).
- Second- or third-degree AV block (except in patients with a functioning artificial ventricular pacemaker).
- Patients with atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation and an accessory bypass tract (e.g., Wolff-Parkinson-White, Lown-Ganong-Levine syndromes).

Verapamil Without a Prescription

Verapamil comes as a regular tablet and as an extended-release (long-acting) tablet and capsule to take by mouth. The regular tablet is usually taken three times a day. The extended-release tablet and capsule are usually taken one or two times a day and should be swallowed whole. Do not chew, divide, or crush the extended-release tablet or capsule.

Verapamil controls arrhythmias, high blood pressure, and chest pain (angina) but does not cure them.

Verapamil, a class IV antiarrhythmic agent, is used as a calcium-channel blocking (CCB) agent for the treatment of angina, hypertension, and for supraventricular tachyarrhythmias.
