Rosuvastatin No Prescription

Rosuvastatin is prescribed for the treatment of pure hypercholesterolaemia and mxed hyperlipidaemia
Rosuvastatin is prescribed together with lifestyle changes (diet, weight-loss, exercise) to reduce the amount of cholesterol (a fat-like substance) and other fatty substances in your blood. Rosuvastatin is in a class of prescriptions called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins). It works by slowing the production of cholesterol in the body.

Buildup of cholesterol and other fats along the walls of the blood vessels (a process known as atherosclerosis) decreases blood flow and, therefore, the oxygen supply to the heart, brain, and other parts of the body. Lowering blood levels of cholesterol and fats may help to decrease your chances of getting heart disease, angina (chest pain), strokes, and heart attacks. In addition to taking a cholesterol-lowering prescription, making certain changes in your daily habits can also lower your cholesterol blood levels. You should eat a diet that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol (see SPECIAL DIETARY), exercise 30 minutes on most, if not all, days and lose weight if you are overweight.

Rosuvastatin is a member of the drug class of statins, used to treat hypercholesterolemia and related conditions. Rosuvastatin is a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase.

Rosuvastatin Contraindications

Rosuvastatin is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to any component of this product.
Rosuvastatin is contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or with unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Atherosclerosis is a chronic process and discontinuation of lipid-lowering drugs during pregnancy should have little impact on the outcome of long-term therapy of primary hypercholesterolemia. Cholesterol and other products of cholesterol biosynthesis are essential components for fetal development (including synthesis of steroids and cell membranes). Since HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors decrease cholesterol synthesis and possibly the synthesis of other biologically active substances derived from cholesterol, they may cause fetal harm when administered to pregnant women. Therefore, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors are contraindicated during pregnancy and in nursing mothers. ROSUVASTATIN SHOULD BE ADMINISTERED TO WOMEN OF CHILDBEARING AGE ONLY WHEN SUCH PATIENTS ARE HIGHLY UNLIKELY TO CONCEIVE AND HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF THE POTENTIAL HAZARDS. If the patient becomes pregnant while taking Rosuvastatin, therapy should be discontinued immediately and the patient apprised of the potential hazard to the fetus.

Rosuvastatin Without a Prescription

Rosuvastatin comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day with or without food. Take rosuvastatin at around the same time every day.

Your doctor will probably start you on a low dose of rosuvastatin and gradually increase your dose, not more than once every 2-4 weeks.

Rosuvastatin is an antilipemic agent and a competitive HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor effective in lowering LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. It is used to treat primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia (Fredrickson types IIa and IIb).
